Charcoal Burning Centre Hieflau with special exhibition
Landl
In order to be interested in this mining museum, one must know what charcoal burning is. Some clever foxes already know: Charcoal burning is one of the oldest craft techniques and it involves the production of charcoal.
The Hieflau coal used to fuel the smelting furnaces in Eisenerz and was therefore of great importance in the region. A walk-in charcoal kiln in original size, a partial reconstruction of the Ennstrift ditch, a waterwheel for operating the wood lift, and the mining historical museum document the nearly 400-year history of charcoal production in Hieflauer-Lend.
Land & People in Hieflau – A Historical Picture Journey
This special exhibition featuring 16 photographs aims to take visitors on a journey through time into the past and a little into the future. The images also showcase the land and people of Hieflau in the 21st century. The exhibition provides an overview of the eventful history of Hieflau – from geological history to the present day. Thanks to funding from Department 9, Culture of the State of Styria, the existing coal kiln facilities have been redesigned in regional cooperation.
