This varied alpine horseback ride takes you through quiet forests, past picturesque alpine pastures, and rewards you with a rustic stop at the Viehbergalm. The trail runs along a well-maintained forest road and is a worthwhile destination for anyone who wants to enjoy trail riding in the Ausseerland region.
The starting point is the parking lot near the OptimaMed Health Resort Bad Mitterndorf. From here, the trail first leads to the beginning of the Salza Reservoir. The trail follows the shore for about 600 meters until a forest road branches off to the right. This road leads steadily uphill past a barrier to the so-called “Bartleck.” There, the terrain becomes flatter and offers the first views.
The bridle path continues along the forest road to the former Klausgrabenstube. From here, the path climbs steeply again. It passes the Rassenbachalm, where there are magnificent panoramic views. On a ridge, you reach a crossroads where you turn right. The trail continues slightly up and down to Miesboden. After that, the trail runs flat before a slightly downhill section leads to the Viehbergalm. There, a cozy hut with regional specialties awaits all riders. The return trip follows the same route.
This route is particularly suitable for riding holidays with your own horse, as it requires stamina but does not present any technical difficulties.
Riding holidays in Ausseerland offer the perfect experience for all horse lovers: whether it's an adventure riding holiday, guided rides, riding holidays with supervision, or simply a relaxing break in the saddle—every rider will find what they are looking for here.
