Styrian Summer Art: Talkstein - large format sculptures
About the offer
Creating sculptural forms with large-format talc and soapstone from the Rabenwald rock is the theme of this workshop. You will learn how to handle sculpting tools and take on a material-appropriate working method as a challenge for shaping your stone. From a boulder (talc stone), we will create a unique piece – from the unworked stone to the shaped and polished form – and we want to engage in this process!
The individual creative creation in the non-representational area is to be encouraged. The diversity of design possibilities with the various form elements is the goal of the course and strengthens you in dealing with the opportunities that larger formats provide. The average size of the talc stones is approximately 30x30x50. You will be working outdoors at the hunting lodge of the talc quarry of IMERYS Talc at Rabenwald.
We thank Imerys Talc Austria GmbH for the good cooperation and for providing the "open-air studio" Rabenwald.
Please bring:
Work clothes (for good and bad weather), work gloves, head covering, safety goggles, good work shoes,
band-aids and elastic bandages for safety
Martin Gollowitsch, GOLLOMAR, born in 1969 in Leoben, works as a sculptor and artist with various materials. Due to his work as a carpenter and joiner, there is a focus on wood, which he employs and showcases in various ways. Through his intensive collaboration with his father, the art educator and artist Manfred Gollowitsch, and the long-term joint management of the talc stone sculpting workshop, working with stone has also become a second artistic mainstay, as evidenced by some works in public spaces.
He runs a studio in Graz, where, in addition to sculptural works, design furniture and lamps are produced.
