Johanns Living: A culinary retreat in Bruck an der Mur
Eat, drink, stay.
In the newly reinterpreted food factory Johanns, a visit to the restaurant becomes an experience – in the best sense. After eleven successful years, the award-winning establishment has reinvented itself under the name Johanns Living: with exclusive suites and the unmistakable signature of 3-hat chef Mike Johann.
In a stylishly restored villa from 1905, creative culinary art meets historical charm. Here, in the heart of Upper Styria, cuisine is created that not only surprises but also touches – puristic, cosmopolitan, deeply rooted in the region, and always with that certain something. Gault&Millau honors Johanns’ cuisine with three hats, the Guide Michelin recommends the restaurant under "Good Cuisine," and the Kulinarium Steiermark seal also underscores the uncompromising quality that emphasizes the use of regional products.
“My craft is my language,” says Mike Johann. What he serves in his open kitchen tells of woods and meadows, of bold curiosity and culinary freedom. Regional ingredients from the Mur and Mürztal valleys meet exquisite products from around the world. This leads to classics such as the famous Styrian Sushi 2.20, parasol mushroom cubes in wild powder, or the unstuffed goose liver with blood sausage and tripe – dishes that you won't forget.
Vegetarian menus with four, five, or six courses are just as much a part of the philosophy as the "freedom-from-the-liver cuisine," where regular guests confidently place themselves in Mike’s hands – spontaneous, multi-course, with dedication and craftsmanship.
Those who want to dive deeper can sharpen their own sense of flavors and textures in the in-house cooking school – with themed courses that change the perspective on cooking.
And then there's Bruck an der Mur: A city that continually surprises with its history, its location between the Mur and Mürztal, and its cultural density. Johanns Living is the perfect starting point – or anchor point – for all who want to travel and enjoy consciously.
