Mountain Woising
GrundlseeThe Große Woising is a prominent peak in the Toten Gebirge, offering experienced mountain hikers a challenging tour with a wide panoramic view over the Ausseerland and Steiermark.
The Große Woising rises to a height of 2,064 meters in the western part of the Totes Gebirge and marks the border between Styria and Upper Austria.
Climbing the mountain is considered a demanding alpine tour, particularly reserved for sure-footed and physically fit hikers. The starting point is usually the Albert-Appel-Haus, which can be accessed via hiking trails from Grundlsee or Offensee. From the hut, the marked path No. 232 leads to the summit in about two hours.
The trail winds through karst highlands, dwarf pine fields, and rocky terrain. Upon reaching the summit, an impressive panorama of the Ausseerland, the Almtal, and the surrounding mountain world of the Totes Gebirge unfolds. A summit cross and a summit book invite for a moment of reflection.
The Große Woising is set in a picturesque region that offers numerous additional mountain and hiking possibilities.
The combination of alpine challenge and scenic diversity makes it a rewarding destination for experienced mountaineers wishing to actively experience the Ausseerland in Styria.
June to September freely accessible in suitable weather.
