Purely a matter of character

How do you recognize the wines of Josef Scharl Junior? By their good character, of course! You can see from the landscape of the thermal and volcanic region of Styria that it was shaped by volcanoes millions of years ago. Since then, it has been quiet. What remains for us - due to some eruptions - is the gift of volcanic soil, which gives this terroir and its wines character. On one of these volcanic hills lies the idyllic wine village of Sankt Anna am Aigen - the home of the Scharls.

Here, the family runs their winery with an attached Buschenschank and passionately continues the traditions that have been respected for generations. In principle, it's quite simple: honest character wines are produced, and open, warm hospitality is maintained. You can easily recognize the winemaker by his "trademark," the Coppola - a cap typically worn by Sicilian farmers.
